Northeast Alabama's Historic Timeline

Alabama PowerThis is an on-going exhibit located at the Gadsden Senior Activity Center. It brings Alabama Power home to Gadsden, where it was first founded by William Patrick Lay in December of 1906, and covers the high points of the history of Alabama Power from that point to today.Featured in the exhibit are eight panels chronicling Alabama Powers growth and service in Alabama and another seven smaller panels housing artifacts dating as far back as 1888.

Alabama PowerAmong the artifacts is a copy of the first Alabama Power Stock Certificate signed by William P. Lay in 1905. Also among other artifacts are Powergram posters from 1923 to 1927, Reddy Kilowatt memorabillia circe 1955, a Hotpoint Electric Range, and a 1929 GE Eletric Top Refrigerator as well a 1923 Burns antique speaker.

The exhibit serves as a poignant reminder of how fortunate we are to live in Alabama -- with all of our modern conveniences.
