That's "SEW" Gee's Bend presents the "Tinnie Pieces with Minnie Designs" Collection of quilts, wall art and kitchen decor from Gee's Bend, Alabama. Their collections can be found in museums from Knoxville, TN to Atlanta, GA and will be on display here in Sylacuaga throughout the month of August.
The sisters, Tinnie and Minnie Pettway of Gee's Bend have been quilting for over 50 years, since little girls with their mother and both during that time learned the value of hard work. Being responsible for growing and cooking food from the family garden to cutivating the land, planting crops of corn and cotton which was used to create their early pieces growing up. Although times were hard and much more to endure today for most children, these girls took what was a task and years later it turned into a world renouned form of abstract art.
Now with their daughter/niece and son-in-law, Claudia and DeLon Charley, owners of That's "SEW" Gee's Bend, has taken their "tradition" and have taken it ot the masses through their website, www.geesbend.net, to museums and private exhibits. The sisters, company and quilts have been featured in publications: "The Montgomery Advertiser" business section (Montgomery, AL, Oct 07), "The Longleaf" (Anniston, AL, Spring 08), The Cleburne News (Heflin, AL) "The Anniston Star" (Anniston, AL).
